Artist Biography
Born in Fredonia NY
My earliest memories are of making art, coloring, finger painting, and drawing. By eighth grade I knew I wanted to go to college for art.
I attended Munson Williams Proctor Art Institute in Utica New York. I took many art courses in all different mediums, but metalsmithing and jewelry making quickly became my passion.
Completing my associates degree in fine arts at Munson Williams, I continued on to Maine College of Art were I received a half tuition scholarship. I studied under Tim McCreight, Alan Perry, and Stephani Briggs. In my senior year I did an intern at Fibula with Edith Armstrong. I graduated in 1998 with a Bachelors degree in Jewelry and Metalsmithing. After my internship I was worked for Edith Armstrong. I have also done bench work for Stephani Briggs, Daniel Dostie, and Alfred Kypta.
Since graduation, I have also expanded my learning by taking classes with Kate Wolf at her studio, Blaine Lewis and weekend classes at Maine College of Art with Pauline Warg and also classes at Hay Stack in Deer Island ME with Brigid O’Hanrahan.
I have helped organize and coordinate annual events, visual and performance art shows. Currently I am the Vice President of the New England Christian Arts Council. The Contemporary Metal Artisans of Maine and His Gifts His Presence are two such shows I helped organize. Along with organizing shows, I have also been in a number of them too. Maine Audubon, Portland Pottery, Jewelry By The Sea and Designing Women are all shows that I have participated in.
I received an award from the Maine Jewelers Association’s Jewelry Design Contest, based on design, originality, marketability, practicality/wearabiblity and craftsmanship.
I have been teaching the Art Club for the past three years at Cape Elizabeth High School. I have also taught privet lessons at my studio.
Jewelry making is one of my passions. The joy of creating and then having art that is functional and wearable is a wonderful concept to me. My work is inspired by creation. There is so much beauty in nature; the possibilities are endless for designs.
